The BLOCK SYSTEM is far more than just a Murphy bed, this all-encompassing solution turns a seat or bench into a comfortable bed. Ideal for small spaces, the design effortlessly balances day and night, blending style with function.
While fold-up beds existed earlier, they didn’t gain popularity until William L. Murphy invented the Murphy bed in 1900. William was falling for a young opera singer, but the customs of the time didn’t allow women into a man’s bedroom. However, despite his modest means and the era’s strict etiquette, Murphy found a clever way to continue his courtship. Living in a small San Francisco apartment, he designed a bed that could fold away, creating a living area. His simple yet effective design became a commercial success, and by the 1920s, Murphy beds were widely popular in space-saving urban homes — a precursor to Tumidei’s modern Block System.
